Q1: Why does this pump have an open hopper design instead of a standard flanged inlet?

The open hopper, paired with a built-in screw feeder, is designed for high-viscosity media with poor fluidity (like dewatered sludge cakes, fruit residue, or thick paste). These materials cannot flow naturally through pipes into a standard inlet; the hopper allows direct dumping from conveyors or manual loading and forces the material into the pump cavity.

Q2: What should be done to prevent bridging or clogging when feeding thick materials into the hopper?

For extremely dry or sticky materials that tend to bridge across the hopper opening, we can customize the pump with an extended hopper length, a dual-screw feeding system, or an integrated breaker shaft to keep the material continuously moving into the screw rotor.

Q3: Can this hopper-style pump run dry during continuous industrial feeding?

No. Progressive cavity pumps must never run dry, as friction between the metal rotor and rubber stator causes rapid overheating and stator damage. If feeding is intermittent, we recommend installing a liquid sensor or dry-running protection device to stop the pump automatically when the hopper runs empty.
